Like on all mountains of
Campania, the great spread of breeding and a particularly
destinate hunting, have remarkably reduced the spaces for
the wild fauna.
Among the mammals, however, the red deer, the wolf, the rate,
the wild cat, the weasel, the squirrel and the hare are still
present.
The bear was present in the past, but there are
recent signallings of a new presence of the plantigrade.
Between the birds it stands out the majestic Golden
Eagle, that nets on mount Mutria and in the Hell Valley.
We have, moreover, the owl, the cuckoo, the kestrel,
the travelling hawk, the sparrow-hawk and many nocturnal predaceous.
In the woods we can listen to the rhythmical strike
of the red woods peacker and the characteristic callback of
the cuckoo.
The waters of Lake Matese, where still lives a
discreet ichthyic fauna, that numbers traits, eels and cyprinids,
give a good stop point to the migratory birds, for their insufficient
depth and for the thick reed thickets that surround them.
On the rivers, we can lie in wait for the great grebe, for
which Lake Matese is one of the most important reproduction
stations in Italy, the gallinule, the wild duck, the dipper
and the ducker.
On the slopes of Mount Miletto the travelling
hawk, ruler of these cliffs, still nests.
Park of Matese to discover, to live and to tell is
a few kilometres from Caserta and Naples, there is an oasis
that is waiting for you, in order to let you live rare emotions.
For every season, a different colour and taste.
The white of the snow, on the alpine ski run of
Bocca della Selva or on the cross-country circuit of Monte
Orso; the flourishing green of summer, between the luxuriant
forest, the thousand shadings of the nature in autumn and
spring, when the colours are magical and tenuous.
In this idyllic landscape the Bag and Dreams Tour
operator of Piedimonte Matese has been suggesting for same
year, through the own catalogues and the net of sale of the
travel agencies, cultural and religious routes, visit to churches,
castles, unpolluted nature and the Golden Eagle.
There are routes constructed on a tracing without
interruptions, that cover old paths or dirt roads, through
charming landscapes, medieval villages and castles giving
the idea to travel through the history.
